Once you have detected that your computer has been infected by spyware (or adware), it is important that you remove it right away. Some spyware infections only appear to show you a window with some advertisements on it. However more is happening on your computer that you can see. Most spyware use "Hacks" to change your windows settings. Usually computers that are infected with spyware have more then one type of spyware installed. All these spyware infections are fighting to change some settings of your computer. This can cause your windows or some of your programs to stop functioning. Its also not uncommon that only a certain functionality is suddenly missing in your windows or in any of your installed programs.

Spyware programs usually target your Browser, namely Microsoft's Internet explorer. Adding links to your bookmarks and changing your default homepage are the less harmful things that can be done. Sometimes the spyware installs complete hacks to add hidden links into web pages that you daily browse. This slows down your computer and your browser a lot.
